Launch of LocalGov.ie Revolutionizes Access to Local Government Services
New website provides easy access to over 1,000 local government services in Ireland, connecting citizens with their communities.
A new website, LocalGov.ie, described as a 'game changer,' has been launched to allow the public access to information about over 1,000 local government services offered by the 31 local authorities in Ireland.
Initiated by the Minister of State with responsibility for Local Government and Planning, Alan Dillon, this website marks the largest online directory of local authority services ever developed in Ireland.
The introduction of LocalGov.ie follows findings from the 2023 Local Government Services report which indicated that 60% of people had difficulty finding necessary information from their local authority.
Minister Dillon emphasized that the site will serve as a guide, akin to a 'sat nav,' directing users to relevant services with clear and accessible information.
LocalGov.ie aims to bridge the gap between citizens and local government, providing details on how to access services like motor tax, dog licenses, home adaptation grants, outdoor leisure amenities, and library services.
The platform will also offer a database of national grants and funding opportunities for individuals, sporting clubs, and businesses, with guidance on access at a local level.
Additionally, the website serves an advisory function, offering insights on topics such as responsible dog ownership, and will be regularly updated to align with the Digital and ICT Strategy 2030.
Patricia Liddy, Chair of the LocalGov.ie Project Board, noted that this initiative replaces outdated methods of disseminating local authority information and is poised to transform public perception and understanding of local government functions in Ireland.
