Extensive Rat Infestation Discovered at Government Buildings

CCTV Investigation Reveals Vulnerable Sewage System at Department of An Taoiseach
A CCTV investigation has uncovered a major rat infestation in the sewage system beneath the Department of An Taoiseach at Government Buildings, leading to rodents infiltrating a kitchen on the premises.

Pest control experts deployed cameras in the sewage pipes six weeks prior after rats were initially seen in the kitchen area at the year's start.

An inspection in January recorded sightings of a rat in the kitchen on New Year’s Day and the next morning.

The pest control report identified possible entry points through plumbing apparatus in the back wall and other areas, prompting a request to seal these vulnerabilities.

Temporary measures included sealing holes with expanding foam and setting traps.

A further investigation identified rat burrows in three areas within the sewage system, signaling significant vulnerabilities that might allow rodents to enter the building.

Comprehensive measures were advised to mitigate the rodent risk, but necessary repairs were pending as of early March.

Previous pest control efforts included addressing what was previously mistaken for rat droppings and a mice infestation in other government sections.
