Impact of Dublin Airport Passenger Cap on City Businesses
City center shops face potential financial challenges if the airport cap is not lifted, threatening Dublin's role as a premier European destination.
Dublin city center businesses are warned of potentially significant financial consequences if the passenger capacity cap at Dublin Airport is not addressed.
The organization Dublin Town highlights the potential adverse effects on the capital's development if the current limit of 32 million passengers is not increased, following a record-breaking September where the airport handled over 3 million passengers.
Richard Guiney, CEO of Dublin Town, emphasized that the cap is detrimental to Dublin's status as a major European city, pointing out the importance of visitors who contribute up to 20% of city spending.
Guiney argues that unlike some other European capitals, Dublin is not yet overwhelmed by tourists and has the capacity to accommodate more.
He states, “Dublin must adopt an internationalist outlook and warmly welcome both visitors and investors to maintain its position as a leading European city.
The current cap is a barrier to this ambition and should be removed to prevent economic consequences for the city.”
