Transformation of Offices and Repair Shop into Family Housing Hub Proposed
Plans submitted to Dublin City Council aim to provide temporary accommodation for homeless families with communal facilities and engaging design.
Plans to convert buildings formerly used as offices and a windscreen repair shop into hubs for homeless families have been submitted to Dublin City Council.
If approved, the buildings off the Crumlin Road near Dolphin's Barn will be transformed into units for 16 families, featuring communal kitchen facilities, dining and family rooms, play spaces, laundry, and study areas.
Additional proposals include a playground, storage facilities, bicycle spaces, and car parking.
The design will incorporate bright colors to make the space inviting and comfortable for families.
The hub will offer shared dining as well as individual kitchen facilities, aiming to create a supportive environment for the families who are expected to stay for up to one year before transitioning to permanent housing.
The overall capacity of the project is 77 beds.
These plans are part of a broader legislative effort initiated in 2022 to address the number of people in emergency accommodation.
Observations on the planning application can be made until October 10.
This development, undertaken by architects with experience in similar projects throughout the capital, signifies an ongoing commitment to providing structured and supportive temporary housing solutions.
