Dublin Councillor Attacked in Anti-Immigration Assault
Councillor Tania Doyle recounts a harrowing attack near her home as tensions over immigration rise.
Independent Councillor Tania Doyle of Fingal County Council shared her terrifying experience after an anti-immigration activist attacked her and her husband outside their home in Dublin.
The incident occurred in the early hours of May 8, 2024, as Cllr Doyle and her husband were returning from putting up election posters.
The assailant, agitated by the posters, physically attacked the couple, concerned primarily with their stance on immigration.
Cllr Doyle recounted how she tried to de-escalate the situation but was met with hostility as the man demanded her views on immigration.
Despite her attempts to calm the aggressor, the situation intensified when she and her husband were violently assaulted.
Although her friend attempted to intervene, the attacker punched Cllr Doyle in the head and her husband fell to the ground injured.
Throughout the assault, which lasted approximately 15 minutes, they feared for their lives.
Fortunately, the attack ceased only when the assailant’s companion intervened, allowing the couple to escape.
Both sustained significant injuries, leaving them physically and emotionally traumatised.
Gardaí in Blanchardstown are investigating the incident, and Cllr Doyle expressed her gratitude toward friends, family, and the local police for their support in the aftermath.
She hopes the perpetrator will be identified and charged to prevent future attacks.
The assault highlights growing tensions around immigration issues in the community.
