Father and Son Jailed in Scotland Over £900,000 Airport Cannabis Smuggling Operation

Border Force officers intercepted the Staffordshire pair at Glasgow Airport with four suitcases of vacuum-sealed drugs following an inbound flight from Thailand.
A father and son have been sentenced to prison at the High Court in Glasgow after attempting to smuggle more than £903,000 worth of cannabis into Scotland inside their passenger luggage.

Border Force officers intercepted sixty-seven-year-old Stephen Harding and thirty-seven-year-old Bradley Harding on November 23, 2024, shortly after their flight arrived at Glasgow Airport from Thailand.

During a customs inspection, border agents searched the pair's four suitcases and discovered dozens of vacuum-sealed packages packed with herbal cannabis.

When questioned by officers about the contents of the baggage during the physical check, Stephen Harding acknowledged having a clear understanding of the contraband inside.

Prosecutors established that the seized shipment held an estimated street value exceeding £903,000, representing a substantial illicit commercial operation.

Both men pleaded guilty to charges of being concerned in the supply of cannabis.

Court proceedings heard conflicting explanations regarding their motives, ranging from coercion and threats by loan sharks over an unpaid debt to a promised £10,000 cash payment for acting as international drug couriers.

Presiding Judge Lord Scott sentenced Stephen Harding to two years in prison, noting that his fourteen years of prior military service made his presence in the dock especially regrettable.

Bradley Harding received a sentence of three years and two months, which will run concurrently with an existing custodial term for violent offenses handed down in England.

Under his existing release schedule, Bradley Harding is not eligible for release until 2028.
