Eoin Hayes to Serve as Independent After Party Suspension
Irish TD Hayes aims to regain Social Democrats' trust after admitting to misinformation on stock sale.
Eoin Hayes, a Dublin Bay South TD, announced he will serve as an Independent in the Dáil following his suspension from the Social Democrats.
The suspension came after Hayes admitted to providing incorrect information about the timing of his sale of shares in the US software firm Palantir.
Initially stating the shares were sold before his election to Dublin City Council in June, Hayes later confirmed they were sold in July for €199,000, before tax.
"I made a mistake," Hayes stated, apologizing for the misinformation and expressing his intent to earn back the trust of the Social Democrats.
He acknowledged providing honest information is crucial and pledged not to repeat the error.
Hayes emphasized his past employment at Palantir and clarified delays in his share divestment were due to administrative reasons.
He also renewed his commitment to advocating for Palestinian rights.
Despite his suspension, Hayes remains committed to the Social Democrats' principles and aims to restore trust with his constituents.
